HLP 4th Grade Teacher Wins National Award

November 22, 2014

(Lake Park)– A prestigious award was presented today (Friday) to a Harris-Lake Park Elementary School teacher.

Fourth grade teacher Bret Greve was named Iowa’s recipient of the “American Star of Teaching Award”. The award was presented to Greve by Carolyn Snowbarger of the U-S Department of Education in front of a student assembly.

Snowbarger says the award is presented each year to only one educator from each state to highlight effective teaching practices and the No Child Left Behind Act. She says it speaks very highly of the Harris-Lake Park School District, which received the U-S Department of Education’s Blue Ribbon School Award in 2004.

Congressman Steve King was on hand as well for the presentation, extending his congratulations to Greve as well.

Greve has been teaching in the Harris-Lake Park district 10 years. He was recognized for his success in teaching through the Student Achievement in Reading and Technology Program with nearly 100 percent of his students proficient in reading, math and science.
