(Spirit Lake)– The for sale sign is out on a historic bridge in Dickinson county.
The board of supervisors Tuesday decided to advertise what used to be the old “swing” bridge on Highway 71 between East and West Lakes Okoboji as being for sale.
Atleast one person, lakes area businessman Butch Parks, has expressed interest in making the bridge into a historical attraction.
Even though they weren’t legally obligated to advertise the bridge as being for sale, it was the concensus of the supervisors to do that to make sure everyone who’s interested has an opportunity to bid on it.
There is a stipulation attached to anyone who does buy it. The purchaser will be required by the county to restore the swing bridge and keep it as an attraction for atleast 25 years.
If no one bids on it, the county could opt to send the steel bridge to the scrap heap.
