Historic Manuscipt On Temporary Display At Dickinson County Museum

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– An important piece of Dickinson county history is on temporary display at the Dickinson County Museum in Spirit Lake.  Curator Cindy Schubert tells KUOO news it’s the original manuscript of the county’s early history written by R.A. Smith, an early settler…(click here for comment from Schubert.)

The handwritten manuscript is hundreds of pages long and is in surprisingly good condition, considering its age. Schubert says the book, titled “A History of Dickinson County”, was written from Smith’s accounts in the manuscript…(click here for comment from Schubert.)

Schubert says the manuscript will remain on display through Labor Day.

The Dickinson County Museum is located on Keokuk Avenue in Spirit Lake, just north of Highways 9 & 71. It’s open the rest of the summer Tuesday through Saturday from 12 Noon to 4:00 p.m. and by appointment for large groups and during the offseason.
