Historic Building In Downtown Terril Appears To Be Saved From Demolition

June 13, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Terril)– A historic building in downtown Terril appears to have been saved from demolition. The city council Monday approved plans by a developer to restore the former bank building on the city’s main Street. Mayor Julie Thiesen tells KUOO news Tyler Kilgore of Estherville presented the proposal…

“He will be replacing the roof, windows, doors and a full garage door as well as restoring the uniqueness of the outside decor. Inside he will do the demo, also new electrical, plumbing, insulation, furnace, and HVAC as well as having a kitchen, two bathrooms, and all of the new flooring and lighting. He gave us an estimate of $265,650 and he said he would not need a Catalyst Grant or an Economic Development Grant at this time.”

Thiesen says Kilgore has outlined a pretty ambitious timeline for the project…

“He is working on a cross fit gym in Estherville at the moment and he will be done with that toward the end of summer, but he said he could get started on this and he would have it completed within a year.”

Plans call for the building to be used as a venue for special events with the possibility of a small business locating in at least a portion of the building some time in the future.

Thiesen says the council will now be working with the city’s legal department in drafting a formal agreement for the project.
