(Pocahontas)– Several people face charges in connection with a high speed pursuit early Sunday. It started around 4:40 am when a Pocahontas county deputy observed a vehicle that was speeding in the 44000 block of Highway 4. The deputy tried to stop the vehicle, but it took off at speeds of 90 mph at times, failing to stop at several stop signs and crossing into the opposite lane of traffic several times with its lights off. Authorities were eventually able to get the vehicle stopped by performing a “PIT” maneuver at the intersection of 330th Avenue and 470th Street in Clay county.
The driver and two passengers were removed from the vehicle and were taken into custody.
30-year-old Braulio Hernandez of Ames was charged with driving while barred, eluding…2nd or subsequent offense, and was issued numerous traffic citations. He was booked into the Pocahontas county jail.
The passengers, 34-year-old Denver Crumpton of Ruthven and 28-year-old Hayley Byerly of Spencer, were arrested on outstanding warrants. Both were booked into the Clay county jail.
The Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office and the Pocahontas and Laurens Police Departments.
