Head-on Crash On Hwy 4 In Emmet County Injures Three

(Estherville)– A head-on crash on Highway Four Monday evening just south of Iowa/Minnesota border sent three people to the hospital.

The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office says Nicole Howard of Sherburn was driving a 2001 Ford pickup northbound when she lost control. The vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a southbound 2000 Oldsmobile Bravada driven by Ronald Leffel of Estherville.

Jaws of life equipment from the Estherville Fire Department and ambulance services from Estherville, Sherburn and Dunnell, Minnesota were called to the scene.

The drivers of both vehicles along with a passenger in the Leffel vehicle, 20-year-old Phil Leffel of Estherville, were taken by ambulance to Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville. There was no word on the extent of their injuries or conditions.

The Iowa Department of Transportation also assisted on the scene.

The collision was reported to authorities shortly after 7:30 p.m.
