Harvest Of Rough Fish Underway On East, West Lakes Okoboji

November 22, 2014

(Okoboji)– If you’ve been on either West or East Lake Okoboji in recent days, you may have noticed areas with a lot of holes drilled in the ice along with trucks.

Officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources tell KUOO news it’s part of an operation to remove rough fish from the lakes.

The commercial operation, which is operating under a contract with the DNR, is using a special technique to seign the fish under the ice.

The operation started Monday on West Lake Okoboji and moved to East Lake Okoboji Tuesday.
