(Lake Park)– A long-time resident of the Harris area has been hired as the Silver Lake Watershed Project Coordinator.
The Osceola Soil and Water Conservation District announced Tuesday Ryan Ransom has been hired to oversee the project that will enroll land into the USDA Wetland Reserve Program, restoring wetlands in the Silver Lake watershed in Osceola and Dickinson counties in Iowa and Jackson county in Minnesota.
The goal of the three-year project is to reduce the amount of pollution getting into Silver Lake by 30 percent. It involves cooperation from several groups, including Pheasants Forever chapters in Osceola and Dickinson counties in Iowa and Nobles and Jackson counties in Minnesota; the Silver Lake Park Improvement Association and the Osceola and Dickinson Counties Soil and Water Conservation Districts.
Ransom says he looks forward to working with landowners with the ultimate goal of restoring 250 acres of wetland and 650 acres of uplands.
Ransom will be working out of the Natural Resources Conservation Service Office in Spirit Lake.
