Harkin Aide To Visit Spirit Lake And Spencer

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)—An aide to U.S. Senator Tom Harkin will meet with area residents on Wednesday, July 17th. Sandi O’Brien will be on hand that day from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. in the meeting room of the Spirit Lake Public Library and from 4:00 until 5:00 p.m. that same day in the ICN room at the Spencer Public Library..

O’Brien will talk about The Healthy Families Act, an effort by Harkin that would allow workers to earn paid sick leave.

A news release issued by the Senator’s office says the events are part of a statewide tour Harkin staff is embarking on to share ideas on how to improve economic security.

In addition to paid sick leave, other components of the act include real retirement security that would allow workers to combine retirement funds; raising the federal minimum wage; and bolstering American manufacturing through the establishment of a national strategy by creating a public-private partnership to help companies innovate, create new products and improve the manufacturing process.
