(Milford)– They’ll be hamming it up this weekend at a county park near Milford.
Ham radio operators from throughout the region will hold their annual field days beginning at noon Saturday (6/23) weather permitting, in the warming house at Horseshoe Bend County Park southwest of Milford. The event is being held by the Iowa Great Lakes Amateur Radio Club will be putting on demonstrations for the public.
The event is being held in conjunction with Amateur Radio Week, sponsored by the National Association for Amateur Radio.
Organizers say the event and others like it nationwide will show the public how ham radio operators can send messages in many forms without the use of phone systems, the internet or any other infrastructure that can be compromised in crisis.
More than 35,000 ham radio operators nationwide participated in last year’s event.
