H-LP School Board To Interview For Interim Superintendent

(Lake Park)– The Harris-Lake Park School Board Tuesday evening established the framework for hiring an interim Superintendent. The board has been working with consultant Gary Richardson, a former superintendent himself. Richardson says five candidates applied. He says they’re very pleased with the quality of the applicants…
“All with experience, and all with multiple experiences and seemed to be successful where they were at, so I think the candidate pool was really good, particularly because of the timing.”
Richardson says the lead candidate will be interviewed Monday…
“The candidate will meet with the current superintendent, have a meeting with administration, and then there will be a board interview at 5:00.”
Richardson says depending on how the interview goes with the top candidate, the board may opt to interview other candidates as well. He adds the person that’s hired will fill the position for a year with the possibility of that being extended by the school board…
“And if that works out they have the option to continue, and if they move on and need to go with somebody full time or re-advertise, they can do that, too.”
Richardson outlined some of the characteristics the board is looking for…
“They would like somebody that can stay on top of the budget and the finances, number one. Secondly, they would like to have somebody that has some experience with a building project, and some just maintenance, experience, on what the two buildings need moving forward and how to get there; and then leadership between the board and superintendent and the board and superintendent and staff.”
Current Superintendent Andy Irwin is resigning effective July 1st. He’s accepted a superintendent position at a district in southwest Iowa.
