H-LP School Bd. Schedules Hearing On Proposed $1.6 M School Infrastructure Sales, Services & Use Tax Revenue Bonds

(Lake Park)– The Harris-Lake Park School Board today (Mon.) voted to schedule a public hearing on a proposal to issue approximately $1.6 million in School Infrastructure Sales, Services and Use Tax Revenue Bonds. Superintendent Gary Richardson says it would help supplement certain aspects of the district’s upcoming construction of a new elementary facility…

“There are some things that you cannot use sales tax for and we aren’t certain of what our bids will come in, so we’re making sure that we can finish the practice track and practice football facility, making sure we have the dollars to demolish the elementary when the time comes because we cannot, by law, we cannot use G.O. bonds to demolish an existing building. That and we had on our ballot language construction of a bus barn and we want to be able to finish that if we can. If bids come in low, then we will not need to issue SAVE dollars and the G.O. bond should cover everything that we need to do.”

Voters in the Harris-Lake Park School District approved an $18.6 million general obligation bond for the new elementary.

On a related note, Richardson says the Harris-Lake Park School Board will meet in a special session July 25th to consider bids for the project.
