Guatemalan Man Pleads Guilty To Illegally Re-Entering The U.S.

(Sioux City)– A Guatemalan man has pled guilty to a federal charge of illegally re-entering the United States.

27-year-old Mario Paulo-Alfonzo entered the plea last week in U.S. District Court in Sioux City.

At the plea hearing, Paulo-Alfonzo admitted he was an illegal alien from Guatemala present in the U.S. without permission. He had been previously removed on December 17th, 2008. On September 5th of this year Paulo-Alfonzo was arrested by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office on charges of forgery and providing false information.

Sentencing will be set once a pre-sentence report is completed. Paulo-Alfonzo remains in the custody of the U.S. Marshal in the meantime.

He faces up to two years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine; a $100 special assessment and up to a year of supervised release.
