Guatemalan Arrested In E’Ville Sentenced For Re-Entering The U.S. Illegally

(Sioux City)– A Guatemalan has been sentenced in U.S. District Court after pleading guilty in August of this year to one county of illegal re-entry.

34-year-old Gabriel Lopez-Chavez admitted to being deported from the U.S. on July 27th, 2006. He was taken into custody by Homeland Security investigators on July 13th of this year after being arrested in Emmet county for driving without a license.

Lopez-Chavez had previously been convicted in February of 2005 of identity theft in Utah.

Lopez-Chavez was sentenced Tuesday to 13 months’ imprisonment and must also serve a two year term of supervised release following the prison term.

He’s being held in the custody of a U.S. Marshal pending transport to a federal prison.
