Group Assists Low Income Homeowners In SW Minnesota

June 01, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Jackson, Mn.)– Rebuilding Together Minnesota is looking to have their first Rebuilding Day in Jackson, where they have six or seven projects on the docket to replace things in people’s houses who desperately need them, such as windows, roofing, sheet rock and doors. Targeted for lower income households, the group aims to help build up and repair especially older housing in the Cottonwood, Nobles, Jackson area, among others. Galen Kauffman, a local spokesman for the organization, says funding for the projects, which often comes at no cost to the person receiving the repairs, comes from federal and state grants…

“We work with both federal and state grants, we work with some foundations, we get grants from some foundations sometimes, corporate foundations, and we do a little bit of our own fundraising as well.”

This Saturday, June 3rd, will be their first Rebuilding Day in Jackson. Kauffman says volunteers and local contractors donate their time and talents to the program…

“We are very fortunate, our volunteer skill level will be higher than usual because we’ve connected with the right people and they’ve connected us with the other right people and I think all of our project leaders, we call them house captains, are either contractors themselves or are high skilled handymen people.”

Anyone wishing to volunteer with the group or those wanting more information should call 507-200-2015. People of all skill levels can help out with the events, and they can help you learn a new skill.
