Ground Broken On Clay County Heritage Center Project

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Construction is about to get underway on the Clay County Heritage Center, to be located on the site of the former Johnson Automotive location on Grand Avenue in Spencer.

The project is being made possible through a grant awarded in 2007 through the Diverse and Charitable Foundation, along with donations from the public and private sectors and several governmental entities.

Cindy McGranahan, Director of the Parker Historical Museum in Spencer, says the Heritage Center will serve as an extension of that facility. She tells KUOO news it will include additional space for exhibits, along with an archived library and a research room being funded by the Spencer Rotary Club. A non-public space will also be included to process collections.

Plans call for demolition and construction to get underway hopefully in the next month or so. McGranahan says completion is slated for late this coming fall or winter. She says they hope to have the center open to the public in the summer of 2012.

Ground was broken on the project Tuesday.
