Ground Breaking Held On Improvements At Camp Foster

August 10, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– A groundbreaking ceremony was held Tuesday evening on some improvements at Camp Foster. It’s being made possible through the YMCA of the Okoboji’s Igniting a Healthy Legacy Campaign. Andrew Fisher, the organization’s CEO, said it’s been a long process to get to this point…

“This has been a journey. It started in 2019 with a group of volunteers and board members that talked about how do we make sure and preserve Camp Foster YMCA of the Okoboji’s to continue to make impacts in the Iowa Great Lakes for many years to come. And through 2020 and all of the challenges that have happened through that, just so thankful for the 100 plus volunteers that have been a part of this process from the beginning to where we are today in making this happen. Whether it be through a gazillion zoom meetings or Saturday morning conversations with potential donors, all those things make today possible.”

Fisher adds the projects represent a secure future for Camp Foster…

“We’re excited about the opportunities ahead to continue to impact kids and families here in the Iowa Great Lakes and while this is an Iowa Great Lake property, we know it impacts people from all across the country that love Okoboji and love Camp Foster as well as the work that we do with the YMCA of the Okoboji’s along the way.”

The projects include construction of a new dining hall and airnasium, among others. This particular phase of the campaign also made possible the recently completed renovation of the aquatics center at the Bedell Family YMCA.
