Grass Fire Saturday Threatened Estherville’s Waste Water Treatment Facility

March 04, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Estherville)– There were some tense moments Saturday afternoon when a grass fire came within feet of Estherville’s wastewater treatment plant.

Wastewater Superintendent Jeff Kautz told the city council Monday evening he was called to the scene around 4:00 pm Saturday after being summoned by the Fire Chief…

“It’s a mystery what started it, or where it started from. There was not a lot of wind Saturday afternoon, it was relatively calm compared with the weather that we have had. Did a walk around on all the outbuildings looking for damaged conduit, any issues with control panels, found absolutely nothing. And the fire department had walked around for awhile before I got there as well. They were pretty curious about it, too. Thankfully it didn’t damage anything but it’s sure a mystery what started it.”

Other details into that fire weren’t immediately available.
