Grass Fire Burns 60 Acres SW Of Milford

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– A grassfire Monday southwest of Milford burned about 60 acres of land before firefighters could get it put out.

Milford Fire Chief Jim Carpenter says his department was called to the scene around 2:40 p.m. and remained there until about 5:30 p.m.

Firefighters returned later in the evening to check for hot spots.

There was no immediate word on a possible cause.

No injuries were reported.

Area fire chiefs continue to remind everyone that last year’s growth is still very dry and hasn’t been overtaken yet by new, green growth. As a result, the fire danger remains very high.

Anyone doing any open burning is urged to keep a close eye on the fire. Anyone planning to do any open burning should contact the Dickinson County Communications Center ahead of time at 336-2525.
