(Des Moines)– Iowa Governor Terry Branstad has ordered all flags in the state be flown at half-staff this Friday, April 27th, from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. in honor of Sgt. 1st Class Edris “Eddie” A. Viers. Sgt. Viers was last seen August 12th, 1950 during the “Battle of Bloody Gulch” near Pongam-ni, South Korea. He was pronounced deceased on December 31st, 1953 but his remains were not recovered at the time.
The Governor’s directive applies to all U.S. and state flags under the control of the state. Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff as well during that time.
