Gov. Kim Reynolds Comments On City Of Okoboji Letter

July 11, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– Governor Kim Reynolds says she has reviewed the letter from the city of Okoboji regarding flood damage and debris in the Iowa Great Lakes and that she is aware of the problem. Reynolds made the comments in a stop late Wednesday in Spencer…

“A lot of things in the letter have already been addressed. I think there’s just a disconnect on the communication. We’ve already done a lot of the stuff. So we’re going to go up there and make sure that they, we’re all on the same page as we go forward. But they need to tell me. Just reach out any way that you can. That’s great. That’s how we collect the information. And it’s certainly evident to us that there’s a disconnect and people aren’t getting the information they should be getting. So a lot of the things that were addressed, that were spelled out, were already addressed and done so I want to make sure they know that.”

Reynolds also commented on the ad-hoc committee that has been put together to try to prevent or control any future flooding on the Little Sioux River from the Iowa Great Lakes to locations downstream…

“It’s really good progress, the group they put together to really start to address it, not really in the short term but most importantly in the long term. They’re definitely on the right track and I think that it’s encouraging that they’re looking at it from like a regional perspective which we have to. That’s how I deal with the Missouri. I mean that’s why four governors came together with the flooding along the Missouri and it is the way we are the most impactful with the Army Corps of Engineers when we have four governors at the table talking about how we have to make the system work from state to state, from the upper basin all the way down to the lower basin. We are all connected, we are all impacted by what happens upstream and downstream. It’s a very effective way to really make change that’s impactful.”

The Governor was also in Rock Valley and Sioux Rapids Wednesday where she was updated on recovery efforts.
