Good Progress Being Made On Lower Gar Bridge Project

March 18, 2026

(Milford)– Construction of a bridge over the Lower Gar Outlet is running well ahead of schedule thanks to the mild winter which allowed an early start, pretty much right after the culverts were removed. Dickinson County Engineer Jeff Rose…

“The contractor has been able to drive the substructure for the bride on the south side, including the pier wall, as well as the abutment, and they have moved to the north side and are working on the pier wall and abutment on that side. Once that work is done they’ll work on doing the false work for the deck itself.”

Rose adds the low water levels right now are also beneficial…

“To construct the pier wall they need to de-water the side by putting in a coffer dam, so with the low water levels it does help with that.”

Rose says people will still be able to fish in that area once the project is done…

“It will be wider than the road. I believe it’s a 40 foot wide bridge which will allow people to continue to fish off the bridge like they have in the past. Otherwise it will have the guard rails on the side, like a normal bridge.”

Rose says as of now, the bridge is targeted for completion in mid to late May.

Graves Construction of Spencer is the general contractor on the $1.34 million project.
