Gillnetting operations begin at Spirit Lake Hatchery

November 22, 2014

Spirit Lake –

Gillnetting operations at the Spirit Lake Hatchery began last Friday.

DNR officials say the unusually warm weather has pushed the water temperatures into the optimal range, and test netting on East Okoboji has concluded with good results. Northern Pike capture has also concluded and officials note that the spawn was extremely successful.

Gilnetting operations will again be conducted by state employees at the Spirit Lake Hatchery.

Visiting hours are from 7:30 am to 10 pm, seven days a week, until hatching is complete. The Hatchery welcomes visitors, and reminds school groups to schedule guided tours.
