(Spirit Lake)-Get Up and Bowl for Special Olympics will raise funds for local Special Olympians. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
Now in it’s 11th year, the Get Up and Bowl for Special Olympics fundraiser will be held on Sunday April 24 at Corner Lanes in Spirit Lake.
Committee Member Mike Ross says, proceeds helps local athletes with equipment and travel expenses. “What Get Up & Bowl is for is all the athletes to go to their events, and several ways that people can help with that. They can have bowling teams, and one thing that we introduced last year, based on the situation plus, with the growing demand of people wanting to participate, is what we call virtual teams, which is actually a bowling team that doesn’t bowl, but they’re represented and mentioned and they get to contribute, in addition to corporate sponsors, monetary donations. We get a huge amount of items for the silent auction.”
He notes that the public is welcome to attend in person or online. “The thing that we’re really getting to the point with right now is monetary donations, show up at the event, corporate sponsors and virtual teams. We almost have the 36 teams filled, so at this point, the showing up part and additional donations is what’s critical.”
