Gas Leak May Have Been Contributing Factor In House Explosion

November 22, 2014

(Dickens)– A gas leak was apparently the cause of an explosion that leveled a house over the weekend in Dickens and sent two people to the hospital with serious burns.

The home is owned by Pat Sorenson. Sorenson’s son, Jon, was working on a water heater when some leaking gas was ignited, triggering the blast. Authorities say Pat Sorenson had just walked into the door when the house exploded.

Sorenson and her son were flown to the Nebraska Medical Center Burn Unit in Omaha where they are both listed in fair condition this (Monday) morning.

Witnesses say the explosion could be heard and felt a mile away.

It happened nearly a year after Pat Sorenson’s husband, Doug, died when he fell into a grain bin.
