(Spirit Lake)– A gas leak earlier today (Fri.) resulted in the evacuation of some residents in the area of Pikes Point State Park on West Lake Okoboji.
Spirit Lake Fire Chief David Kollasch tells KUOO news firefighters were called to the scene at 15741 213th Avenue around 9:30 a.m. after a contractor accidentally struck a 3/4 inch gas line, severing it. Kollasch says firefighters stood by as a precaution while crews with Black Hills Energy worked to pinch off the line without incident. He says the evacuation was also conducted as a precaution, adding the residents have since been allowed to return to their homes.
Firefighters were on the scene until about 2:00 p.m.
