Fort Defiance Crash Results In Charges Against Driver; Sends Lake Park Man To Hospital

(Estherville)– A single-vehicle crash Wednesday near the west end of Fort Defiance State Park resulted in charges being filed against the driver and a passenger being sent to the hospital.

The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office says 20-year-old Breanna Seggerman of Omaha was driving a 2002 Volkswagon westbound through the park when it left the roadway, struck a tree and rolled onto its side.

A passenger, 24-year-old Nicholas Hemphill of Lake Park, was taken by ambulance to Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville for treatment of minor injuries. No injuries were reported to Seggerman was charged with operating while intoxicated…2nd offense; open container of alcohol on a public roadway and possession of alcohol under the legal age. Seggerman was booked into the Emmet county jail.

The crash took place shortly before 2:00 p.m.

The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Estherville Fire Department, as there had been a report initially of smoke coming from the vehicle.
