Former Spencer Resident & Y100 Morning Host Wins An Emmy

January 18, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Los Angeles)– A huge honor for a former Spencer resident and Y100 morning host. Jon Armond has won a 2024 Emmy Award for “Outstanding Narration in a TV Series” for his work with the NFL’s New York Jets on CBS. Armond narrates the program, titled “One Jets Drive”…

“It’s like the Hard Knocks HBO kind of a football show if you’ve ever watched that, but it’s specific to the New York Jets every year. Over the course of the 14 years that I’ve been doing it, we’ve gotten nine Emmy nominations. They’ve gotten some, because they have some for editing and writing and stuff for other things, but me particularly, this was actually my ninth nomination, so I was starting to get a little bit of the Susan Lucci syndrome going on. I’m glad it only took nine and not 26 or however long it took for her.”

Armond has done voiceover work for a number of other programs, including one coming up next month on the History Channel. “Entertainers That Built America” is an 8 episode series…

“And the first episode, they’re hour long episodes that I narrate, and the first episode is Johnny Knoxville and Evil Knievel. So it’s like focusing on the daredevil entertainers and each week it will be a different facet of the entertainment industry that kind of changed the course of American entertainment.”

Armond’s voice has also been featured on some 450 nationally aired commercials over the past seven years for companies such as Coca Cola, Pepsi, Disney, Marvel, Target and McDonalds.

Armond has been doing voiceover work since he moved back to California, where he’s originally from, in 2015. But he’s quick to point out he owes a lot of his success to the time he spent working in radio in northwest Iowa…

“You know everything you do in your life when you get to a certain point, has elements you can look back and say okay, that helped me a lot. And of course my time in northwest Iowa and the 14 and-a-half years I spent working in radio there, you know, with you on KUOO and down in Spencer at Y100 and of course on Q102, so that really, all of that, helped me to get where I am. So I look at my time in Iowa as a really big part of what I’ve been able to accomplish today.”

Armond and his family lived in Spencer from 1996 to 2010 and hosted the Y100 morning show from 2006 until 2010. Following that he worked in radio in Portland, Maine before moving back to his hometown of Los Angeles in 2014.
