Former Spencer Librarian Who Saved Dewey Adopts Another Cat

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Vicki Myron intended to wait a year or two before getting another cat. Her best-selling book, “Dewey, The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched The World,” was keeping her on the road most of the time and she didn’t have time for a pet.

An orange and white kitten found on a snow-covered road in Spencer changed her mind. Myron says she fell in love instantly with the kitten, which she named Page.

The little tabby was found December 16th by Sue Pelzer, who works for the Spencer school district. She says she found the kitten in the street after a truck swerved to miss it.

Two days later she showed it to Myron, who adopted it.

Myron’s book is about Dewey, a cat she plucked from an overnight drop box at the Spencer library in January 1988. Dewey died in November 2006.

The book reached number one on the New York Times Best Seller list and remains in the number two spot.
