Former Police Officer In Estherville & Armstrong Sentenced

(Estherville)– A former police officer in Estherville and Armstrong has received suspended prison sentences as part of a plea deal. Benjamin Scheevel originally faced 85 counts including stalking with a dangerous weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon and perjury. The charges stem from incidents between January, 2016 through April, 2019.

Scheevel entered Alford pleas to five counts of unauthorized access to or dissemination of criminal history data, aggravated misdemeanors, and two counts of unauthorized access to or dissemination of criminal intelligence data, both are class “D” felonies. The remaining counts were dismissed.

Scheevel was placed on probation for three years and will have to pay court costs and fines.
