(Estherville)– The Estherville Police Department’s former K-9 is being remembered with a monument.
The K-9, Max, died October 5th, 2011 following a short illness.
Now, the Henry-Olson Funeral Home has purchased a monument it’s donating to honor the late Max for his service to the Estherville Police Department. It will be placed at the north entrance to the Emmet County Law Enforcement Center.
Through community donations, the department was able to purchase a new K-9, also named Max, in December of 2011. To date the new Max has been involved in the seizure of $3,050 worth of marijuana, 1/8 ounce of heroine and a half gram of cocaine.
He also assisted in the location of stolen tools during a track in a burglary investigation.
