Former DNR Head Named New Exec. Dir. Of Dickinson County Conservation Board

(Spirit Lake)– The former head of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources has been named the new Executive Director of the Dickinson County Conservation Board. Richard Leopold tells KUOO news he’s very excited to be back in his old stomping grounds…Click here for comment from Rich Leopold

After his four-year stint as head of the DNR, Leopold was employed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Regional Headquarters in Minneapolis.

In addition to overseeing operation of the Nature Center and the county farm complex east of Kenue Park, the Dickinson County Conservation Board also manages the Horseshoe Bend Preserve, Orleans Beach, the Judd Wildlife Area, the Spring Run Shooting Range, Westport Pit Park, the Superior Marsh and various canoe accesses along the Little Sioux River.

As mentioned earlier, John Walters, the Executive Director for the Conservation Board for the last 22 years, is assuming full-time management of the Recycling Center just east of Milford.
