(Undated)– You’ll want to keep your eyes on the northern part of the sky tonight (Fri.) to catch a glimpse of something special. Rod Donovan of the National Weather Service in Des Moines says we should be able to get a good view of the aurora borealis, or the northern lights…
“Several geomagnetic storms that are coming off the sun with that, some of those auroras and northern lights very well could be seen from Iowa overnight tonight.”
He says they’ll be visible across a broad area…
“Their forecast has the viewing all the way into northern Missouri. Assuming we can get rid of the clouds that we’ll have passing through later this afternoon, viewing should be pretty good especially as we get toward midnight tonight.”
Donavon says the lights are the strongest expected since 2005.
