(Undated)– Some of the coldest air in recent years is about to descend on the region. The National Weather Service says an arctic front will arrive this (Fri.) afternoon. It could be accompanied by gusty wind and some snow showers, but any accumulations would be limited to a dusting. The biggest story however is going to be bitterly cold temperatures that will stick around into the middle of next week. Daytime highs will struggle to get above zero with overnight lows in the teens below zero. Forecasters say windchills will be downright dangerous, perhaps as low as -30 degrees.
Officials say with conditions like that it’s important to take some precautions if you’re going to be traveling. Make sure your vehicle has a full tank of gas and is in good running condition. They also recommend having some additional blankets and a winter survival kit in the event of a breakdown.
