(Milford)– Flower pot and field fires kept Milford firefighters on the run Sunday.
Captain Shane Langholz says the first call came in shortly after 3:00 a.m. when firefighters were called to 1204 “S” Avenue after getting a report of a fire in the building. Police officer Jordan Furman arrived prior to the fire department and discovered that a plastic flower pot being used as an ash can in the hallway of the second floor of the building was smoldering. He put it out with a fire extinguisher. Firefighters stood by on the scene a little more than any hour ventilating the building.
Milford fire fighters were called around 4:30 p.m. Sunday to a field fire on Highway 86 north of 180th Street. Firefighters arrived on the scene to find over an acre of soybean stubble on fire. They put it out with assistance of local farmers using tractors and disks. Firefighters were on the scene a little more than hour.
