Flooding Continues Along West Fork Of Des Moines River

(Undated)– Flooding continues along the West Fork of the Des Moines River.

Flood warnings remain in effect until further notice along the river throughout northwest Iowa and southwest Minnesota.

At Jackson the West Fork of the Des Moines was measured at 14.7 feet at 9:00 this (Thurs.) morning. Flood stage in Jackson is 12 feet. Forecasters say the river has crested at Jackson and will continue to fall to a stage of 14.5 feet by 7:00 a.m. Friday (April 1st).

Downstream at Estherville, the West Fork of the Des Moines River was at 12.3 feet as of 10:00 a.m. this (Thurs.) morning…a little more than five feet over flood stage. It’s expected to drop to 12.1 feet Friday morning (April 1st).

West of Emmetsburg the West Fork of the Des Moines was measured at 11.8 feet–flood stage there is 10 feet.

Flood warnings for the Little Sioux River in northwest Iowa have been discontinued. While levels are still high, the National Weather Service says they should continue to drop, and for the most part have already dropped below flood stage in most areas.
