(Jackson, Mn., Estherville)– Floodwaters continue to rise along the West Fork of the Des Moines River. In Jackson, Highway 71 has water over it. Traffic is being detoured to I-90, Hwy 86 and Jackson CR 34. A number of sandbagging operations have been ongoing in that community to try to protect infrastructure.
In Estherville, Emergency Management Coordinator Travis Sheridan says the river could reach historic levels later today (Sun. 6/23), reaching perhaps 18 feet. If it does get that high, Sheridan says residents living in the vicinity of the river will likely lose power.
Officials in Estherville also say more and more roads are becoming flooded. They remind everyone not to attempt to drive through the water and not to drive around barricades.
