Flood Warnings Go Up Along West Fork Of Des Moines River

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)—Residents living along the West Fork of the Des Moines River from the Iowa-Minnesota border through Estherville to near Wallingford are being told to get ready for flooding.

The National Weather Service this (Mon.) morning  issued a flood warning for that stretch of the river, which will remain in effect in until further notice.

In Estherville, flood stage is eight feet. Forecasters expect the river will rise to near 9.1 feet by early tomorrow (Tues.) and will remain at that level through Saturday morning…before it starts to slowly fall.

Forecasters say any additional heavy rain on top of what has already been received will likely aggravate the situation.
