Flood Warning Continues On Little Sioux River West Of Milford

May 01, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Milford)– A flood warning remains in effect for a stretch of the Little Sioux River west of Milford. The National Weather Service says the stage in that area as of 4:00 this (Wed.) morning was 12.4 feet. Flood stage there is 12 feet. Forecasters say the river in that area is expected to crest at 13.2 feet this evening before it starts to recede. That is conditional, however, on how much rain we receive in coming days. So far officials say the flooding has been minor.

High water is also causing an issue in Spencer. City officials say it’s forced them to close a portion of the recreational trail on the east side of East Leech Park and near the Aquatic Center.

On a related note, the month of April will go down as one of the wettest months we’ve seen in quite awhile. 5.14 inches of rain fell during the month here at the KUOO studios. 6.79 inches was reported for the month at Ruthven.
