(Washington, D.C.)– Congressional deadlock over a bill that contains funding for the FEMA flood insurance program has ended.
The U.S. Senate Tuesday passed the measure, which was being held up by Republican Senator Jim Bunning of Kentucky who wanted congress to come up with a way to pay for the spending bill without adding to the deficit.
While residents can once again apply, it should be pointed out that you must live in an area that participates in the National Flood Insurance Program to be eligible for coverage. Very few communities in Dickinson county participate in the program.
In addition, a flood insurance policy must be in effect atleast 30 days prior to a flood event taking place in order to be covered.
With the prospects for a flood this spring increasing, officials have been urging property owners in flood prone areas that are included in the National Flood Insurance Program to purchase coverage.
