Fish Barrier Project Remains On Target For Mid December Completion

November 22, 2014

(Milford)—Construction of an $840,000 fish barrier at the Lower Gar Outlet northeast of Milford remains on target for its mid-December completion date.

Concrete work on the structure has been completed and fencing is in place. Officials say some finishing touches is about all that remains on the project.

The barrier is being constructed in an effort to keep any additional asian carp from getting into the Iowa Great Lakes. Several were caught in seigning nets last summer. Officials say they’ve had no further evidence of the invasive species in the Iowa Great Lakes, and they’re hoping the fish barrier will keep it that way once it’s up and operational.

Christianson Construction of Estherville is the general contractor on the project.
