(Wahpeton)– A state park in the Iowa Great Lakes will be among more than 40 locations participating in First Day Hikes coming up New Years Day, January 1st, 2026.
A self guided hike will be held on the Barney Peterson Memorial Interpretive Trail at Gull Point State Park. The 1.5 mile trail features tallgrass prairie, a scenic overlook, wildlife and multiple species of trees and shrubs. The hike is on natural terrain and follows the slope of the land.
Participants should dress for the weather. Parking will be available at the Gull Point Lodge parking lot or at the trail head.
The First Day Hikes are put on each year by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
