(Orleans)– No injuries were reported in a fire late Wednesday afternoon in Orleans. Spirit Lake Fire Chief Pat Daly says they were called to 12025 140th Avenue a little after 3:30 pm…
“They were burning some leaves and it got away from them. It got into the firewood place, stacks they had there, and that kind of took some time to put that out.”
Daly says it was fairly close to some structures but they managed to keep it away from them. He encourages anyone planning to do any burning to use extreme caution…
“Just kind of a reminder to anybody out there. This is not our usual January. There’s no snow out there, the grass is extremely dry. If it gets going it takes off. Like everybody knows that lives in Iowa the wind’s going to blow some time. You just have to use some caution.”
Firefighters were on the scene about two hours. No injuries were reported.
