Fire Results In Minor Damage To Arnolds Park Business

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– Officials say the use of a fire extinguisher likely prevented more serious damage to an Arnolds Park business where a fire broke out Tuesday.

Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire Chief Chris Yungbluth says firefighters were called to 5 Star Millwork at 81 South Highway 71 in Arnolds Park shortly before 2:30 p.m.

Yungbluth says the majority of the fire had already been put out when the first truck arrived on the scene, a few minutes after being paged. Yungbluth says the business owner used a fire extinguisher provided by a police officer who also responded to the scene.

Firefighters were on the scene about a half hour checking for hot spots and putting them out. There were no injuries. Only minor smoke damage was reported to the building.

Yungbluth says heat from an exhaust pipe from a stove used to burn wood scraps started some wood on fire through which the exhaust pipe went through.

Yungbluth adds the incident points out the importance of having a fire extinguisher at your home and business, and knowing how to use it and make sure it’s inspected annually.
