Fire Prevention Week Reminders: Have Your Furnace Inspected & Check Smoke And Carbon Monoxide Detectors

October 11, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Milford)– With another heating season upon us comes a reminder to make sure your furnace is up to snuff. Jason Simpson of the Milford Fire Department says it’s a good idea to have an annual inspection of your heating equipment and he says now is the time to do that…

“It’s always good to check with your local plumber that does your plumbing work and just have them come and give it a good check over to make sure everything’s working correctly and that the furnace doesn’t malfunction and cause a carbon monoxide call.”

He also says this is a good time to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors…

“Even though the battery’s not dead it’s just good to put a new one in and then test it, make sure it works correctly.”

Experts also recommend replacing any detector that’s 10 years old or older.
