(Wallingford)– Fire Sunday night destroyed a tractor and damaged a piece of equipment it was pulling.
Wallingford Fire Chief Jarrod Fischer says firefighters were called to a corn field about three miles east of Wallingford on Emmet County Road A-34 shortly before 10:00 p.m.
Upon arriving Fischer says firefighters found the tractor fully engulfed. Firefighters used foam to put it out.
A cause of the blaze isn’t known. Fischer says it started under the hood of the tractor. He says the operator safety got off it and wasn’t injured.
The tractor, a John Deer 9620 four-wheel-drive, was a total loss. It was valued at roughly 200-thousand dollars. Damage to a disk ripper it was pulling was estimated to atleast five thousand dollars.
Wallingford firefighters were on the scene about an hour and-a-half.
They were assisted by the Wallingford EMS and the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office.
