Fire Destroys Residence In Arnolds Park

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– A weekend fire has destroyed a residence in Arnolds Park.

Arnolds Park-Okoboji Fire Chief Chris Yungbluth says firefighters were called to 584 Dam Road shortly before 11:30 p.m. Saturday. Yungbluth says firefighters could see a large amount of fire coming from a chimney chase on the west side of the house. He says they were able to extinguish the bulk of the fire quickly, which had spread to the interior on the first and second floors.

Three people who were in the residence at the time got out unharmed.

Yungbluth says firefighters were called back a short while later and found the structure completely engulfed.

He says the home is a total loss with damage estimated in the range of 500-thousand dollars.

He says it appears the cause was some sort of a mechanical problem with a gas fire place. Yungbluth says first floor occupants reported seeing a strange glow after shutting it off. Shortly after that, second floor residents reported smelling smoke.
