(Estherville)– An apartment building in Estherville was destroyed by fire Monday evening.
Fire Chief Travis Sheridan says the Estherville Fire Department was called around 5:40 pm to Country View Apartments at 203 South 28th Street. He says heavy smoke was coming from the attic and eves on the east side of the building when firefighters arrived. Some siding on the west side of the building was also on fire, as well as a portion of the roof. A nearby garage also started on fire. Fire Departments from Gruver and Wallingford were then called for assistance.
One person was taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
Sheridan says the cause is under investigation. He says the State Fire Marshal is expected on the scene today (Tues.).
Three people who were living in the building were displaced by the fire. Temporary living arrangements are being made for them.
Firefighters returned to the scene a little after 2:30 this (Tues.) morning after the fire re-kindled.
