(Lake Park)– Fire this (Tues.) morning damaged a house in Lake Park. Fire Chief Brandon Ehret tells KUOO news they were called around 7:20 am to 106 East 1st Street…

“Upon arrival we had smoke coming out of the upstairs windows and eve of the house. The laundry room was on the upstairs portion of the house. We made entry. There was heavy smoke. We were able to get that ventilated out and found the dryer on fire, also had the washer on fire as well. We were able to get the two appliances put out. There was fairly heavy smoke damage upstairs, a little bit of water damage in the downstairs kitchen from putting the fire out. Other than that there was no extension to the house, the sheet rock held the fire and, you know, the smoke damage was pretty well contained to the upstairs.”

Ehret says two people were home at the time. They managed to get out unharmed, however a pet bird perished.

Ehret says the fire originated in a clothes dryer but he isn’t sure whether it was caused by lint, a mechanical malfunction, or some other issue.

Firefighters were on the scene about an hour.
