(Arnolds Park)– A lakes area restaurant sustained only minimal damage in a fire Friday evening.
Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire Chief Chris Yungbluth says firefighters were called to Mrs. Lady’s restaurant in Arnolds Park after employees started smelling something hot. Upon further investigation flames were discovered coming from around a water heater in the basement.
The fire was extinguished by the time firefighters arrived.
Upon investigation it was determined the kitchen ventilation hoods created a negative pressure in the building causing the exhaust from the gas water heater to reverse, resulting in flames coming out of the bottom scorching the side of the water heater and exposing some nearby combustibles to heat.
Minimal damage was reported to the water heater and materials around it.
The restaurant was able to remain open.
No injuries were reported.
Firefighters were on the scene about a half hour.
